| Not that that I know anything about scubadiving, but the general problem with diving in Finland is that ALL lakes and the so called sea are full of mud. You can't see further than a few meters no matter where you are.... The only diving jobs available in Finland are in army. The police and the firedepartments might also have their own, but all in all there are only a few dozen professional divers here. |

I have heard that professional who can clean the boats in the sea (or at least the part in the water) are mainly hired in summertime: why don't you give a try? I honestly don't know if this is still up-to-date for the next summer, but maybe... |

| Cleaning the boats in the sea... that is exactly what I have been looking for (of course, it is not my career, but it could be useful as "a starter" - to make contacts, meet people with the same interest...). But the problem is that I also just "have heart" that this job exists. I have sent my application to the Port of Helsinki and to many Shipping companies registered there, but NOBODY answered. Mona, don´t you know more details (for example the company, the address etc. where to ask?). I would be grateful! And Pablo, for me the LOWE is also the reason why I´m moving to Finland. You mentioned your finnish girlfriend - she couldn´t help? (my probably not, she is a stranger there herself) Pavel |

| Pavel, I'm a foreigner myself but I've asked some Finnish friends for more info about your problem! They said that the first step you can take may be to contact Työvoimatoimisto (Finnish employment service) in Helsinki and they will help you for sure... Here is the Internet site http://www.mol.fi |

Here is the Internet site http://www.mol.fi I hope you get satisfactory results from the työvoimatoimisto, but I want to caution you that I and most other people I know who have been members of the employment office, have found the services there to be rather useless. They don't really help you find a job (or if they do it is usually something part-time/seasonal, low-paid, or boring work that talented job-seekers do not want). The työvoimatoimisto mostly just helps you fill out papers for Kela support and organizes työvoimakoulutus, or training classes. |

| Hi, Why don't you guys set up an own business together? It's alomost impossible to find jobs in Finland, so it's easier to set up your own business. You could for example clean those boats and teach diving. There are people who dive in the sea, even in winter time, so get to know them. It's a big risk to hire people in Finland, baceuse it's difficult to fire them and employer costs are wery high. That's why companies, especially small ones do almost anything to avoid hirering new staff. However, if you had your own business, I would imagine that it would be quite easy getting all kinds of diving projects. And finnish girls would love to take diving lessons from foreign guys;) ... it would be almost as good as travelling to some beautiful resort for a holiday. Most Finns speak English well. |

| Hi guys and girls, first to John, Maybe it has something to do with your attitude... I have many foreign friends, (french, german, russian) and everybody has a job! If you are ready to work hard you will always get a job, but don´t expext anybody to just give you a big salary for nothing! to Caroline, The emploimentoffice will always be the passive part, you have to be the active part. they won´t throw work at you but if you ask them to help you with something concrete, they will!! So both of you, stop complaning!! To Pavel and Pablo, I´m sorry to say but you probably won´t find any diving-jobs in Finland. The boatcleaning jobs is usually given to proffessionals because it involves also photographing and repearing (welding and so on..). We also have many divingschools in finland so I don´t think that is a good idé! What I think you should do is looking for teaching jobs in your native languange, (spanish, English...) and then find a more intresting job. Check the http://www.mol.fi!! Good luck and welcome!! |

One of the reasons why the services of the employment office never improves, is because not enough people in Finland know how to complain. So no, I do not think that the solution is to "not complain". The key thing is, that finding a job requires that one be assertive and persistent, not passive. If the job of the employment office is to provide a service, why should they be the passive ones. I mean, if the job-seeker is going to do all of the research alone, why involve the employment office at all.... |
