Nothing specific to Finland. It's exactly the same in all other European countries,I'm afraid. |

| I was a bit disappointed to read some of these comments. Of course Finland is not perfect, any more than any other country. But there's a huge number of positives, and if you can't accept the negatives, you needn't live here. It is difficult to make close friends or to find work, but that doesn't mean it's not worthwhile trying. | |

| I am absolutely appauled by some of your comments, people. I'm half Finnish and we're a laid back bunch who are reserved and yes shy, but we're not rude and we're not "assholes". Look at us Americans. Our country has so many problems- racism, drug/alcohol abuse, etc. etc. No wonder every country in the world hates us. Now, I love my country, Finland included, and I will stand by both of them, but I think it is wrong for some of you people to write that we Finns are a rude bunch of gits. It just goes to show how RUDE AND RACIST SOME OF YOU ARE. nOTICE i SAID SOME, NOT ALL. We Finns are no better than anyother culture or race. | |

| Did you bother looking at the first post?It asked what people found most different, and what aspects were a shock. With the exception of one person who claims to be a Finn themselves on another thread, everyone has been pretty civil about answering. | |

| Hi, I dont regret it , unless it gets really cold and dark :) but seroiusly, life is an adventure , I moved here 10 months ago, with my Finnish BF , and in spite of the fact that I have a great job, a supportive partner and a nice place to live, I find life quite sad and lonely. As a person who's open and warm, I have found Finland socially challenging, its been nearly impossible to get close to Finn's , especially Finnish women, I find that they are intimidated by my "outgoing" personality. Even at work, I have hardly made any friends, most of the time people speak Finnish and dont make any effort (I work for an international firm and they use English for work purproses). Im studying Finnish and I try and make an effort but theres no way one can learn to speak fast enough to catch up with the locals... I smile to myself everytime they go to eat lunch at 11:30 (and think Im strange for going at 13:00).. different culture.. and thats just the way it is! anyway, having said all of that... no place is perfect and I dont believe in "regrets" , its just another exprience, and Finland has a lot to offer, its pretty and calm and lets cross our fingers that summer comes SOON :o) good day everyone and good luck!! |

| Well i do not regret coming to finland, sure in the begining life is hard and cold esp if you come from the tropics, then it's true finn are totally closed up in themselves, truest me this is my 5th year here and i have not made friends, the place i kow yu get more people to be talkative is the bars and it sometimes gets boring, sure nowhere is perfect, just be happy that yu are getting the basic necesities fo life, and as a matter of fact unless you are a refugee seeking asylum, so if life sucks here the world is open and please remmeber East West home is best! |

| "most of the time they speak Finnish" Yes, they would do just that, imagine. Company language may be whatever, but don´t expect people to use something else than their own language when they speak outside official company talk. |

mshengah kirjoitti: truest me this is my 5th year here and i have not made friends Just wondering, you can speak finnish right? Finnish language might be a bit difficult and cause most of the finns speak at least fairly good english there are many well educated immigrants here that have been living here for years and can't speak any finnish! So i just think it wouldn't be easy in any country if you are unwilling to learn the language. |

| Finns are 1. Liars in their personal and business dealings. However, with foreigners their behaviour is unbelievable. NEVER TRUST A FINN 2. Unbelievably jealous. Foreigners are resented in Finland. Those with a good job are HATED by jealous Finns. I love it when my neighbour stares jealously at me when I carry in my shopping. He seems to think that as I'm foreign I shouldn't be able to have the same, let alone better, living standard than him. 3. Very Nationalistic. They have a Suomi-Suomi uber alles philosophy drumed into them during childhood by School and the media 4. Racist. Its just funny that they can be racist towards Asians when so many have Asian features (especially around the eyes) themselves. 5. Lazy. They love to brag that they are hard workers! 6. Emotionally immature. They seem incapable of LOVE. They even find it hard to say "well done". Everything is satisfactory, no less no more. 7. Have alcohol problems. Most cannot communicate unless they are totally pissed 8. Don't know how to enjoy themselves. Bank holidays should tell you what the Finns are all about. Go to the supermarket to buy a car load of beer. Go home and drink it, sleep off the hang over and then go back to work. 9. Racist. They are not interested in other cultures, apert from rubbishing them. Everything and everyone that is foreign is substandard compared to the Finnish alternative. 10. Don't have any ideas. Their culture is about conformity and consensus In summary I feel really sorry for the Finns. I came to check the place out. I've done my contract and I can't wait to go home. So everyone should be happy. Racist Finns ahve one less ulomainen to worry about. For me, all I say is carry on enjoying your sick, racist, unloving life in this truely miserable country. Enjoy your life in Finland!!!!! |

| Having lived here for almost 4 years and being a well travelled person I can only say that moving to Finland is not much different than moving to France or Canada. Sure the language is more challanging and thus getting started into the workforce takes a bit longer. But moving to a new country always means long lonely evenings alone at home, finding friends mostly takes 2-3 years wherever one goes. The educational mahanmuutaja system is great and one gets every help possible to learn the language and there are many organisations to help you started. One just has to get out of the "Finland is shit" mood and put your future into your active hands. Just be possitive and live your own life..... Sure I do not know it I will retire here (a bit to cold) but living in a safe country with a great social system makes it worth staying here. |

| I agree with "the boss"... very jealous people, never like to give good feedback and women especially are nasty if another foreign women is around.. Ive been told "thank g-d you arent single, otherwise you'd be too much competition for us Finns'--- Sad but true. |
